You guys are going to be sick of me by the time Blogtember is over! Don't worry school starts back up tomorrow so there is a fairly good chance that I will be too busy between my two jobs and school to keep up with the Blogtember posts. But I am going to try my hardest, it's so easy when the prompts are already there for me I feel bad NOT taking advantage! Today's prompt as I am sure you read in the title is 5 books that have influenced my life. Whoa, right up my alley honestly. Picking only five is a challenge though because I devour books like they provide sustenance which I suppose in a sense they do. They feed my wild imagination and my view of the world around me. I read a lot of fiction books and so I am that person that is constantly looking around trying to find weird patterns in daily life that shows I am about to embark on a wonderful romance/adventure/discover something secret. You can say I am a nerd but really I think that makes life a little bit more fun! Okay back to the task at hand.
2. The Shack. This is one that my mom handed to me after the loss of my first grandfather and I never made it to the end of the book. One day I will sit down with another copy and read it cover to cover because it was an amazingly well written book and really opened my eyes to so many things that I had not given a second thought before. While it did help me sort through the emotions I was experiencing at the time I also don't think I was at a level of maturity to really sit down and appreciate the book as much as I would now. Then again I learned a lot and maybe now I would just learn different things, not necessarily anything more important but just different.
3. Any kind of smut/romance novel that I have read. Okay very rarely do I ever admit to anyone that I read smut or romance novels because well really I am not that kind of person. I lack the faith in relationships that usually seeps off of people that read romance novels. But somewhere deep inside of me there lives a hopeless romantic and occasionally I feed her with a romance novel. Most recently I have loved the young adult romance novels by Katie McGarry. They are very easy to read and are good all American romances with a little bit of life struggles to make them interesting. Granted I read all of these with a grain of salt and just once I want one to be realistic, where maybe the boy and girl realize at the end that they weren't meant to be no matter how hard they tried, then again I doubt that would sell very well...
4. A Modern Fairie Tale by Holly Black. It's not fair to limit this part to just the trilogy that is A Modern Fairy Tale because there is at least one other fey books that have led me to want to believe that in the bushes little sprites fly around and that at night the fey mix their lights in with those of lightening bugs. But this trilogy by Holly Black is one that I re read often and for that reason I am putting it in my list of influential books. I don't ever want to lose the wonder with the unknown, I don't want to become one of those people who fear the unknown. I want to wonder at it and perhaps imagine a little bit more than is actually there. And besides who can resist a dark fairie tale with a punk kid who is actually fey? Not me.
5. The Crossroads Between Should and Must by Ella Luna. This was a graduation gift from my all knowing mother who seems to know the best time to bestow books upon me. I haven't finished the book but from the third of it that I have read I can already tell that this book will help shape my life, not just professionally but I hope in my personal life as well.
What are five books that have influenced your life? Also check back every once in a while to my NEW what I am reading tab at the top!
