Let me set the scene for you guys, my friends were all busy and I have been practically counting down the days until the Scorch Trials came out! I am not joking, since the first of September I counted down the days until September 18, 2015. In Savannah the theaters get the movie the day before the official release date and I am not entirely sure why but I have learned not to question it because you don’t fix things that ain’t broke! excuse the poor grammar I couldn’t help it =p
Anyway the day came that the Scorch Trials came out but I made plans with a group of friends to see it the following Monday. That Monday I went to a scholarship meeting (for a scholarship I found out I wasn’t actually eligible for) and the chair of my department reminded me that I had to leave for Philly in basically TEN DAYS for the Shop.org Summit. (which is basically this GREAT opportunity for me to network and hopefully land a job, a reward for being a top 25 semi finalist for the Ray Greenly Scholarship) I didn’t have any of my personal branding ready AND my best friend had to work and then my other two friends were feeling under the weather so we didn’t go. We rescheduled for this past Sunday, I had a really crappy/stressful week and weekend and I REALLY needed this movie date. My friends ended up being busy so I was like whatever I will go by myself! I like going to movies by myself honestly it’s a nice escape from reality and very relaxing. Anyway that’s how I finally got myself to the Maze Runner: Scorch Trials, now onto the review.
When I found out they were turning the Maze Runner books into movies I decided that I finally needed to read the books before the movie came out. I am very happy with how the Maze Runner translated into a movie, the graphics were stunning and the actors really brought the story to life. I almost am always disappointed in books turned into movies but this one was an exception.
So then obviously I had very, very high expectations for the Scorch Trials. By now I have only read the first two books in the series and right before watching the Scorch Trials that they were pulling pieces of the third book into this movie and I was like oh no, I wont know what is happening! And then I thought, holy crap, what about spoilers for the next book!?? They deviated from the book as was expected.. however they kept all of the important parts and honestly? I think that the movie may have been a better story line than the book. But then again maybe not, they did change the story majorly but it worked out SO well for the movie that it made it better. The book is great but the movie adaption is very impressive and there are so many plot twists that you will be on the edge of your seat the entire time even if you have read the books which is great for me!
Now onto spoilers, if you have seen the movies or read the books, what the hell are your thoughts on Theresa?? I mean I knew not to trust her from the books but for some reason her betrayal in the movie made it even worse! And honestly it was slightly less dramatic than in the book, also I don’t know how to feel about Aris in the movie because in the book he doesn’t seem trustworthy but he didn’t do anything wrong in the movie… I have so many conflicting feels and I absolutely MUST read the third book now because at the end of the movie they decide to launch an attack to get Minho back! Which is way further along than the second book, which ends with them getting on the hover craft and Thomas is separated from everyone because WCKD says he has the Flare. One thing I miss in the movie that is in the book, Thomas’s ability to speak into Theresa’s mind, and later Aris’s mind and Brenda’s. It just seems like it is going to be a major part of the story line and even though it’s really hard to do telepathy well in movies I really think it is something they should have included!
Have any of you seen the Scorch Trials yet?? Or read the books?? What did you think?? Also how creepy were the Cranks?? I was sure they were going to haunt my dreams that night…
P.S. If you haven't seen the trailer for this movie yet I've taken the liberty to post the trailer here at the end, it also gave me an excuse to see Dylan O'Brien again! =D
